Refuse collection delays in Mfuleni due to unrest

Residents living in Mfuleni are currently experiencing refuse collection delays due to protest action and volatility in the area. The City will inform residents via the subcouncils and social media regarding updates to the service. For now residents are advised to keep their bins on their property until further notice.

The City of Cape Town wishes to assure residents that every effort is being made to resume refuse collections services in Mfuleni as soon as it is safe to do so.

‘We condemn any violent protests especially when it denies many households from receiving services. The refuse collection teams have been unable to service Mfuleni since last week as our vehicles were being stoned and a contractor vehicle was petrol-bombed in Khayelitsha. Fortunately no staff were harmed during these instances.

‘Under the current environment, our refuse collection teams are unfortunately unable to service the area but we are monitoring the situation and will resume services when it is deemed safe to do so. We are making every effort to ensure that we continue to deliver services as far as possible while prioritising the safety of our staff and the public we serve,’ said Alderman Xanthea Limberg, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste.
